What Is Kiwi Crate?

These crafts are made to work for different age ranges, and they have everything covered from 0-8, 9-13, and 14+. They lean on the STEM and STEAM learning principles which encourage kids to get hands on and problem-solve for themselves.

Each month they will receive a different kit that encourages innovation such as making their own working toy grabby machine or a kaleidoscope from scratch. The pack also includes a magazine, games, and options for exploring the lesson behind the fun so kids can truly understand how it works.

The crates can also be filtered by interest so if a child is curious about art and design, science and tinkering, geography and culture, and early learning, then there are plenty of options.

Every crate is the result of over 1,000 hours of designing and testing, and designs by a team of experts.

How Does A Kiwi Crate Subscription Work?

It’s pretty simple really. Start by choosing the line that is age appropriate for your child, and will capture their imagination. Then, choose the plan you like the look of. This is the duration and can be monthly, or you can prepay for 3, 6, and 12 months.

The longer the commitment, the greater the discount. Subscriptions do automatically review at the end of the subscription but this can be cancelled anytime.

The crates do have cute names and the options are as follows:

  • Panda Crate 0-24 months
  • Koala Crate for ages 2-4
  • Kiwi Crate 4-8 years
  • Atlas Crate 6-11
  • Tinker Crate 9-16+

The first crate ships in 2 days and international shipping takes a little longer but it normally takes 7-14 days for them to arrive.

There are never any duplicates and a Kiwi Crate subscription can also be gifted.

How Much Does A Kiwi Crate Cost?

This depends on a few things. Most notably, the kind of crate you choose, and how long the subscription period is going to be. For example, a Kiwi Crate will cost as little as £12.79 a month if paying for the full 12-month subscription.

Otherwise, this box is £16.77 if paying monthly.

Kiwi Co does make it possible to buy one off boxes from their store, but these are more expensive than the monthly subscription.

What Is A Kiwi Co Box Like?

Kids will immediately recognise the box when they see it. Not only does it come in the iconic packaging every month, but it is addressed to them. This is part of the appeal and builds excitement from the word go.

All the pieces inside are kept in good condition thanks to the small bags. This is important as there can be intricate parts that need to be kept away from one another.

The box should take up an hour of kids time with crafts, assembling the kit, reading the included comic, and completing all the activities inside.

Each step is made easy to follow for the appropriate age group but represents enough of a challenge to maintain their interest. For example, the fun with the flight kit involves making a kite, but also using air to push foam rockets into the stratosphere.

Do Kids Need Help With A Kiwi Co Subscription?

Young kids may find it helpful to have an adult to hand, especially the first time. But confident readers will generally find it easy to follow, yet fun to do. It can be useful for an adult to be there to explain the science behind the activity, it’s all in the included magazine.

Doing craft projects with your kids is always fun anyway so we can see why so many parents like to get involved. A kid will need help if their reading isn’t quite there yet, but they should find it a fun experience as a whole.

Is It A Kiwi Co Subscription Worth It?

First of all, we love the way the packages are put together. They arrive in a well-packed box and they manage to fit a lot in there.

The activities are near-genius in how good they are. Once the kit has been assembled, it is amazing to see how the science behind each one works. The main way to see if it is worth it is by the look on a child's face when the latest box arrives.
